Jen Bekman Projects is looking for an energetic, art-loving Public Relations specialist who can start immediately for a contract-based position through January 1, 2010. He or she will be responsible for capitalizing on press and marketing opportunities during the holiday season, both online and in traditional media (print and television). He or she will oversee all PR activities, build awareness and site traffic and lay out PR plans for 2010. The ideal candidate works well with a team and is self-motivated. He or she must have outstanding communication skills (written and verbal).

Like the rest of the JBP team, the person we're looking for must love art, photography and technology and eat/sleep/breath the Internet and social media.

This is a temporary, full-time role through January 1st, 2010 with the possibility of an extended contract. HIRED!

JBP's mission is "art for everyone." We're an NYC-based company that uses the power of the Internet to bring the value and joy of collecting art to a wider audience than has ever been possible. JBP consists of three programs: 20x200 is an innovative website that offers curated, limited-edition prints at "ridiculously affordable prices." Hey, Hot Shot! is a critically-acclaimed international photography competition which discovers, recognizes and promotes photographers at all stages of their careers. Jen Bekman Gallery, the flagship of JBP, exhibits photography, works on paper, paintings and mixed media.

The Job

  • Secure top-tier media opportunities in both print, TV and online media, including press coverage in art, lifestyle and consumer outlets; speaking engagements; sponsorship opportunities; award submissions.
  • Develop media relationships, and strengthen existing ones, across a wide spectrum of outlets.
  • Secure regular press coverage across a wide spectrum of outlets.
  • Create and implement long term plans in regard to media relations, public speaking opportunities and conferences.
  • Develop and execute print and online PR strategies and plans to support retail and online sales efforts for the holiday season and year-round initiatives.
  • Work with the designer to develop company advertising and marketing collateral specifically for the holiday season/gift market.
  • Provide original copy-writing for various marketing materials, including press releases, media pitches, presentation materials, e-mail campaigns, brochures, and additional print and e-marketing material.
  • Work with curatorial team for key launches, programming, and seasonal initiatives.
  • Work with associate producer to manage, develop and streamline existing social media platforms for all of JBP.

The Person We're Looking For

  • Has at least a bachelor's degree.
  • Has at least 5 years of experience in online and e-commerce PR.
  • Knows print magazines, online media sources, and TV inside and out.
  • Is comfortable developing media relationships in person as well as on the phone and over email.
  • Has a way with words on the phone, in emails, and of course, in person! Grammar, spelling, style—we want it all!
  • Is fluent in social media and extremely web savvy: Tumblr, Flickr and Twitter are dear friends and Facebook is no stranger.
  • Keeps up with art-world trends with an eye for media opportunities and developing partnerships.
  • Thinks logically and strategically to balance multiple, deadline-driven projects.
  • Pays manic attention to detail.
