We are looking for a organized and meticulous System Administrator. Our Sys Admin will be responsible for maintaining the server environments for the websites and blogs that comprise our many projects. Our ideal candidate will have a broad range of experience with a focus on building and maintaining scalable, stable, secure environments. Consultants with startup experience are encouraged to apply.
As you might expect, this is an on-call job. You will be expected to be available 24/7 if there is a server issue to be solved.

JBP consists of three programs: 20x200 is an innovative website that offers curated, limited-edition prints at "ridiculously affordable prices." Hey, Hot Shot! is a critically-acclaimed international photography competition which discovers, recognizes and promotes photographers at all stages of their careers. Jen Bekman Gallery, the flagship of JBP, exhibits photography, works on paper, paintings and mixed media.
The Job
- Work independently and with a team to manage our hosting infrastructure.
- Deploy and manage all installed servers.
- Monitor and measure performance of our applications.
- Manage security and backup infrastructure.
- Help to set up and optimize local (Macintosh-based) network, including backup, VPN, and file servers.
- Anticipate, identify, and resolve architectural issues and live production problems.
- Work with developers to build horizontally scalable architectures.
The Person We're Looking For
- Is a born problem solver and a super-quick, self-sufficient learner.
- Has 3+ years LAMP System Administration experience.
- Has deployed and maintained load-balanced applications at scale.
- Is experienced with managing and tuning MySQL Server, specifically in load-balanced, replicated installations.
- Uses Nagios, monit, or other metrics and notification software as a critical part of their workflow.
Extra Stars For
- Knowledge of Perl, Ruby, or other modern scripting languages.
- Experience managing large scale CMS systems.
- Expertise in virtualization and cloud services.
- Experience with schemaless DBs like MongoDB or CouchDB.
- Having managed LAMP applications using mod_fcgid, WSGI, or Rack.
- Experience setting up small local Macintosh networks.
- Familiarity with Git.
