Jen Bekman Projects | Controller

Jen Bekman Projects is looking for a Controller who loves art + numbers, thinks outside the box, and will do things differently if it means doing them better. The Controller is a key member of the JBP team and will report directly to the CEO. He or she will manage and execute the accounting processes of the company (AP/AR, sales accounting, the monthly close, account analysis, reconciliations, cash treasury functions, and a variety of projects including substantial reporting and analysis as they arise). We're looking for someone who is energetic, self-motivated, detail-oriented and hyper-organized.

This is a full-time role that begins immediately. Our team is smart, ambitious and passionate; the working environment is energetic and fun in spite of regular, tight deadlines.

JBP consists of three programs: 20x200 is an innovative website that offers curated, limited-edition prints at "ridiculously affordable prices." Hey, Hot Shot! is a critically-acclaimed international photography competition which discovers, recognizes and promotes photographers at all stages of their careers. Jen Bekman Gallery, the flagship of JBP, exhibits photography, works on paper, paintings and mixed media.

The Job

  • Perform monthly close, including preparation and completion of journal entries.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Accurately record daily cash activity and prepare weekly cash reports.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including payroll and artists' commissions
  • Prepare annual budget and quarterly re-forecasts for P&L and Balance Sheet.
  • Maintain up-to-date fixed asset records.
  • Assist external accounting firm with any audit and tax inquiries.
  • Prepare monthly reporting with variance analysis and writeup of results.
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports for investors.
  • Drive selection process and manage finance and administration vendor selection including external accountants, payroll, benefits and insurance.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects, analysis and reporting requests.

The Person We're Looking For
  • Has a bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA preferred.
  • Has at least 3-5 years of related experience, preferably at an internet or art company.
  • Knows Quickbooks accounting software like the back of their hand (and knowledge of more advanced programs is even better).
  • Is fluent in Filemaker or other database application.
  • Has expert Excel skills and know their way around both PCs and Macs.
  • Thinks logically, work effectively and be able to juggle a variety of responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Is obsessively organized with a manic attention to detail.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Is able to juggle many different deadline-driven tasks simultaneously.
  • Is able to handle confidential and sensitive employee information professionally, with discretion.
