20x200 Frequently Asked Questions

Our Prints

How are 20x200 prints created?

Our prints are created in close collaboration with our artists and artisan printers. The majority are archival pigment prints, made with the most technologically advanced digital printers, using long lasting, stable inks on 100% cotton rag paper.

Occasionally, our artists choose to use an alternate printing technique—letterpress, photographic C-prints or silkscreens, for example. And sometimes our artists offer original works, drawings or paintings, created with materials of their choice.

The details and/or materials of each artwork are noted on its edition page, and the packing slip includes detailed information about the art you've purchased.

How often is new art released?

We release at least two brand new editions a week, and sometimes more often. Newsletter subscribers are the first to be notified every time new art is introduced.

Are 20x200 artworks signed by the artist?

No, the actual art itself is not signed. The artist signs a 20x200 Certificate of Authenticity that includes the artwork title, size and edition number. Each artwork is accompanied by the Certificate, which ensures both the integrity of the edition and the artist's participation in its creation.

What is a Certificate of Authenticity?

A 20x200 Certificate of Authenticity accompanies every 20x200 artwork. It is an archival card that is signed by the artist and includes the artwork title, size and edition number. It ensures both the integrity of the edition and the artist's participation in its creation. For framed art, the Certificate is presented, along with the artist statement, in a clear envelope on the back of the frame. If you choose to buy something unframed, be sure to keep your Certificate in a safe place.

What's an edition?

An edition is a limited run of a particular artwork and consists of a set number of prints in a set number of sizes. Once artwork is sold out, it will not be released again in that size.

Why do the print-run quantities differ for each of the different price points?

We aim to offer great art at the most affordable price and size—$24 for an 8"x10"—but some (most) images look better larger. The 11"x14" artworks for $60 are our most popular, so we like to make those the most widely available.

Does 20x200 art look exactly like the images we see online?

We work to ensure fidelity between the images you see online and our final artwork. While our screens are calibrated, meaning that they are regulated for color consistency and accuracy, most screens are not. Because of this, colors and tones can vary greatly between computers, so the art you receive may look slightly different than it did on your computer.

Does the size of the paper equal the size of the actual image?

No. We use standard paper sizes and do not alter the image to fit the paper, which means that most will have a white border. You can find the dimensions of the actual image size for 8"x10" and 11"x14" art by downloading our framing guides on the individual edition pages. For specifics about larger prints, please contact framing@20x200.com.

Who owns copyright or Creative Commons licenses on 20x200 art?

The artist who created the image controls all rights. Copyright law states that copyright is not transferred to the buyers of either prints or original artworks.

How do the artists benefit from sales?

Artists receive half of the proceeds from art sales.

Can I buy 50 prints and resell them?

No. We allow a maximum purchase of four prints of any artwork. Some artists prefer that we limit sales to one per address.

Where else can I buy 20x200 art?

Nowhere! The art you see here is created exclusively for 20x200. We have special relationships with our artists, who give us the honor of presenting their most exciting works to you.

How do I care for my art?

If you are not immediately going to frame your art, we recommend storing it flat in a drawer in their original, archival sleeves, away from direct sun, heat and humidity. If your art was shipped in a tube, set books or a flat weight on top of it to flatten. Remove and file the artist bio and statement sheet separately. Your Certificate of Authenticity may be stored with your art or filed separately, but be sure to keep it in a safe place. Learn about caring for framed art here.

Our Frames

Is all 20x200 art available framed?

Custom frames are currently available for art that is 30"x40" and smaller. To frame art larger than 30"x40", please contact framing@20x200.com for a consultation.

Why should I have 20x200 frame my art?

Value: Our custom frames come at an unbeatable price.

Style: The frame size, color and matting are carefully selected to best present the artwork. Quality: All of our framing materials are archival and conservation-quality. Your art is expertly protected.

Convenience: Every piece of art arrives ready to hang—instant live-with-art gratification!

How is 20x200 art framed?

Our hand-built, custom frames are solid wood, with a smooth black or white lacquer finish.

Four-ply, archival white mats are beveled and precision-cut to fit the artwork. At least 2" of matting on each side of the image ensures the artwork is optimally presented. For some art, floating it is the best way to display the art. Floating employs invisible spacers to distance the artwork behind the plexiglass while the artwork rests on top of the archival mat. The matting style used for a particular artwork is identified on its edition page. Spacers are also used when "framing to image." This means the frame comes to the image edge.

Frames are fitted with durable, UV-protected plexiglass and finished on the back with tan craft paper, rubber footers to protect your walls and wire for easy hanging and installation. A clear sleeve protects and presents your artist info slip and signed and numbered 20x200 Certificate of Authenticity.

There are a handful of artworks for which we recommend framing beyond our current offering; for a framing consultation for these artworks, please contact framing@20x200.com.

Are 20x200 framing materials archival? Will my art be protected?

Yes! Our frames are conservation-quality, which means that your art is protected from deterioration and environmental factors such as air pollution, heat, light and humidity. From the mats to hidden elements like hinging tape and backing, all of the materials that come into contact with your art are acid-free and archival—they will not damage, deteriorate or discolor your art.

Why do you use plexiglass in your frames?

Plexiglass is superior to glass: It offers higher-grade UV protection, has less glare, is less fragile (so it won't break and scratch your art) and is markedly lighter, which generally translates into safer and easier handling, storage and hanging. We like plexiglass so much, it's what we use for many of the artworks at the Jen Bekman Gallery.

The standard plexiglass in our frames blocks 70% of UV rays to minimize fading. Art 24"x30" and larger is framed under enhanced UV plexiglass, which offers approximately 98% UV protection.

What size and shape are 20x200 frames?

Below is a summary of the size and shape of our framed art. Measurements reflect the distance between the outside edges of the frames.

To frame art larger than 30"x40", please email us at framing@20x200.com for a consultation.

Where is 20x200 art framed?

Our frames are hand-built and assembled in New York City by expert custom framers who are committed to quality.

Is art framed by 20x200 ready to hang?

Yes. Each piece arrives with two D-rings and hanging wire already attached to allow for easy installation.

How should I hang my framed art?

A single artwork or a row of artworks should be hung at eye level, which means that the center point of the frame(s) should be about 58" from the floor. When installing artwork over furniture, leave at least 8" between the base of the frame and the top of the furniture. Avoid hanging your artwork in direct sunlight. Learn more about hanging and arranging art here.

How do I care for and clean my framed art?

The most important thing in caring for your framed art is to avoid hanging it in direct sunlight.

To clean your framed art, follow these special instructions for plexiglass: Remove dust by blowing; DO NOT brush it away with your hand or a dry cloth, as this can damage the plexiglass. If further cleaning is needed, DO NOT use a common household cleaner like Windex or similar products that contain ammonia, as these cleaners will damage the plexiglass. Water and a soft, clean cloth should do the trick; you may also use a cleaner especially designed for acrylic surfaces, or make your own solution by mixing warm water with a small amount of mild dish detergent. Use a minimum amount of your chosen cleaning liquid on a soft cloth or sponge to wipe the plexiglass clean. Dry gently with a soft, lint-free cloth.

What if I'd like to frame my art myself?

You can find DIY information in our downloadable framing guides, located on the lower right-hand corner of every edition page.

If you're looking for the most affordable framing option, have the framers cut a custom mat for a ready-made frame. You can also have a completely custom frame and mat cut for your art, but this tends to get expensive. Our custom frames are of exceptional quality and are available at unbeatable prices.

Purchasing & Checking Out

Can I save art in my cart?

You can save art in your cart for up to 60 minutes. After that, it is automatically returned to our inventory, since our art is limited-edition.

Why do the available inventory numbers of new artworks fluctuate so much?

Technically, art is removed from our inventory as soon as someone places it in his or her cart; that artwork remains deducted from the inventory until the purchase is complete or the session expires (60 minutes). If the session expires before the purchase is complete, the art is returned to the inventory.

Art that said "Sold Out" is now available again. Why?

Artworks may appear sold out for the same reasons that inventory numbers fluctuate in general. It may appear sold out, but check back, as art can become unexpectedly available again if sales are not completed before a session expires. This is especially common with new art from popular artists. Your best bet is to subscribe to the 20x200 Newsletter to get first dibs on new art and buy what you like when you see it!

Can I make a wish list of art I'd like to buy?

Yes. Our wish list is currently powered by Amazon. The Amazon Wish List allows you to save art you wish to purchase in the future. Just look for the Amazon logo next to the art you want to buy.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We currently accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. If you have a preference for another payment method, please email us at support@20x200.com.

Why can't I add items to my cart?

This is likely happening because your browser has JavaScript turned off. The 20x200 site requires JavaScript to be turned on in order to function. If you need help making sure JavaScript is turned on, please email us at support@20x200.com.

I made a typo/error when I submitted my order or email address—how do I correct it?

Email us at support@20x200.com and we can update your order or account.

Why does the site look wonky?

Old browsers such as Netscape 4, Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer for Mac and the Comcast Browser can negatively impact the enjoyment of our site. We suggest you update your system to a free browser like Firefox, Explorer 7, Safari or Chrome.

What happened to Google Checkout?

Google Checkout served us well when we launched 20x200, but we have since created our own checkout system. We suggest you create a new 20x200 account for the best collecting experience.
