Monday greetings, collectors. As promised, we've got a special edition to announce today, and to make it more special it's a double edition. To make it even specialer, one of the two images we're introducing from Kate Orne, one of our most recent Hot Shots, is a benefit edition. And you thought that this was just an ordinary late August Monday, didn't you?
Kate's work is intense, compassionate and courageous. Sexworker with Client I and Shahi Mohalla III are photographs that capture the essence of her practice. She is a maker of brave and beautiful images, and her hope is to use art to call attention to the often invisible lives of people on the fringes of societies that are themselves largely unknown to the Western World.
It's hard to imagine someone who could seem like more of an outsider in these worlds than Kate. She's a bundle of energy and exuberance, embodied in frame most Swedish - tall, strong, blond and punctuated with striking blue eyes. Also undeniable in her presence is her passion and the aforementioned compassion evident in her photographs. That energy and emotion must come through when she's working with the people she's documenting, because the work indicates access both physical and psychic.
She's not content to call attention to the people she's worked with, she wants to provide material help to them, and has in fact done so via Sheed Society, an organization she founded to address the social issues particular (not to mention particularly brutal) to Pakistani sexworkers.
Kate's images are striking in both subject and composition, which is why she stood out to the competition's panelists and the hundreds of people who saw them on view at the gallery's most recent exhibition. I'm so pleased to also have an opportunity to present them to you here, and encourage you to spend some time browsing through the archive of projects on her site.
Naturally, I also encourage you to add today's photographs to your 20x200 collection. Beyond adding some important work to your own personal archive, collecting Kate's work will support both Kate's practice and a very worthy cause beyond that. All profits from the sale of Sexworker with Client I will benefit a recently established school for the children of sexworkers in Pakistan which was founded under the umbrella of Sheed Society.
And with that encouragement, I'll take my leave till tomorrow, when I'll be back with this week's fine art edition. Look for me then!
