Happy Sunday, collectors! We're sending you sunshine-y warmth today via one of our favorite artists (and yours!), Christian Chaize. Apres Grande 12 is the last new edition we'll be releasing in 2011 from Mr. Chaize, and with it we're marking the last day his exhibition of new work will be on view at JBG (more info below!), the last day you'll be able to order custom-framed prints for 12/23 delivery, as well as the last day of that big art fair by the sea, Art Basel at Miami Beach. The Jen Bekman Gallery booth can be found at PULSE in booth E-101, showing works by Christian, along with Michelle Muldrow, Carrie Marill and Sarah McKenzie.
Apres Grande 12 itself is not the last or the end—in fact, it marks the middle of a meandering journey. With its closely cropped, more intimate overview of beachgoers and their colorful umbrellas, Apres Grande 12 connects Christian's newer body of work, Paradis, with his perennially-popular Praia Piquinia series. As Jen pointed out when she introduced Apres Grande 7 and Sans Titre 21:
The... images are more subtle—sculptural, abstract and meditative; assembled elegantly within a squared frame—than the exuberant finery of the Piquinia vacationers' umbrellas. The beauty in Paradis emerges from a more nuanced palette comprising the curves of tide-worn boulders and the hearty plant life that takes hold amongst their crevices. As I wrote in the press release for the exhibition of this work that's currently on view at Jen Bekman Gallery, "here Chaize uses the lens to contemplate the beach in a more private and reverent manner. Paradis demonstrates his ability to shift subjects and tonal ranges and still manage to coax out details of the beach others might overlook."
More photos from this new series are on view in Berlin's Kunstburo through December 17th, 2011. But we're betting you'll be seeing a lot more work from Christian—in exhibitions, in prints, in publications—in the new year.

LAST DAY TO SEE CHRISTIAN CHAIZE'S SOLO SHOW AT JBG IN NYC
Bask in beachfront warmth one last time before the chill of winter sets in. But do so quickly: Today's the last day to view Christian Chaize's exhibition, Paradis. A departure from his beloved Praia Piquinia series, the photographs in Paradis honor the sculptural, transcendent landforms of the Seychelles. Paradis closes today, December 4th at 6:00 p.m. at Jen Bekman Gallery, 6 Spring Street in New York.
