Where is that Middle Way?

ARTIST STATEMENT

These paintings were made while I was at Yaddo, an artist residency in Upstate New York. There was this slowing down that happened there, a slowing down and sinking in. I walked the grounds daily, weaving between four ponds. It was early spring, the trees were just beginning to sprout leaves and skunk cabbages were poking their heads up from the wet ground. There were algae, pink and green, floating in the ponds; the reflection was groundless.
