ARTIST STATEMENT

In order to tell my stories, I frequently use a combination of portraits and still lifes. The picture of the birdhouse that I chose for 20×200 is part of the series <a href =“http://www.birthepiontek.com/work/sub_rosa”>Sub Rosa. This work deals with two subjects that have always been of great interest to me: innocence and adolescence.

The intimate moments captured in the portraits of Sub Rosa are a means of contrasting the innocent vulnerabiliy of youth with otherwise rather somber settings.

My pictures are an exploration of what lies beneath the surface; through them I intend to create feelings of tension and uneasiness by hinting at secrets that never actually reveal themselves.

These prints are created using archival pigment inks on 100% cotton rag paper with a luster finish.

Our quoted dimensions are for the size of paper containing the images, not the printed image itself. We do not alter the aspect ratio, nor do we crop or resize the artists’ originals. All of our prints have a minimum border of .5 inches to allow for framing.

We recommend a custom frame in black solid wood with UV protected plexiglass and a white archival mat. Please note: Framed art may take up to 4 weeks to ship. Available for U.S. orders only.

  • 11"x8.5" print offered in 14"x14" frame (3/4” front profile x 3/4” side profile)
  • 22"x17" print offered in 22.5"x22.5" frame (3/4” front profile x 3/4” side profile)
  • 40"x30" print is dry mounted and framed to the image (3/4” front profile x 2” side profile), with spacers and enhanced UV plexi glass
