A unique mix of commercial and fine art has characterized Speegle's diverse career. A Texas-born New Yorker, he was part of the East Village art scene, designing for art galleries, producing downtown club events and curating various shows. For the past 20+ years, he has also art-directed and designed for many publications including Vanity Fair, Us Weekly and Radar.
His vast (2,500 and counting) vintage paint-by-number collection functions as raw source material that he combines with text, altering their original meaning, and making good use of the Jasper Johns credo: "Take something; do something to it; then do something else to it."
