Inspirations: I love pre-Renaissance illustrated manuscripts and Indian miniatures. I aim to emulate their clarity and directness in my work.
From: I was born in Mexico City, grew up in Baja California Sur, moved to Texas with my family when I was 12, tried London for six months and have been living in New York for the past 14 years.
Reading: I dropped Janice Van Horne's memoir about her marriage to the famous critic Clement Greenberg after it became clear she wasn't interested in art (or even in his criticism) and picked up Paul Bowles' third novel, The Spider's House, which so far is as excellent as his first two.
