Although painting was Jeff Scher’s first love, film snuck up on him. Since the ‘70s, he’s been making films and videos exploring the relationship between paint and motion. These films are screened fairly often at film festivals and museums and are in a lot of collections, including the MoMa, the Academy Film Archives and more. Since 2007, Jeff has been making films regularly for the New York Times, for a blog called “The Animated Life” in the Opinion section. Exposure in the Times has led to some commissions, including music videos for Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, making animated backgrounds for an Off Broadway musical, The Kid, and making these prints for 20×200.
