Artist Eirik Johnson grew up hiking in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. His photographs have been exhibited at spaces including the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and the Aperture Foundation in New York. He has received numerous awards including the Santa Fe Prize in 2005 and a Fulbright Grant to Peru in 2000. His work is in the permanent collections of institutions including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Seattle Art Museum, and the George Eastman House, Rochester, NY.

His award-winning monograph Borderlands was published by Twin Palms Press in 2005. His most recent book Sawdust Mountain was published by Aperture in 2009 and is the subject of a major traveling exhibition. He is represented by Rena Bransten Gallery in San Francisco, CA and G. Gibson Gallery in Seattle, WA.

He is an Associate Professor of Photography at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston, MA.
