Valerie Hegarty lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and is represented by Nicelle Beauchene Gallery (New York) and Museum 52 (London). Her work has been exhibited internationally in such venues as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; MoMA PS1, New York; the Sculpture Center, New York; The Drawing Center, New York; the Nassau County Museum of Art, New York; the Bronx Museum of Art, New York; CTRL Gallery, Houston; Museion, Bolzano, Italy; Tokyo Gei Dai, Japan; and many others. She has been awarded numerous grants, including the first Campari Commission Grant, the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Grant and the Tiffany Foundation Grant. She was commissioned to create a public project on the High Line in New York City and has a work on view in the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum.

From: I was born in Burlington, Vermont, but grew up in Northeastern Massachusetts suburbs while spending much time lake-side and mountain-side in Southern Maine.
Currently reading: Deepak Chopra's Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul
Interesting/unusual hobbies: I volunteer in the pediatric wing of a Brooklyn hospital drawing the kids' portraits. I recently was introduced to bird watching and hope to cultivate that as a new hobby in conjunction with plein air painting with watercolors.
