This photograph was born from a reoccurring dream I had for many years. In this dream, there was a very large bear aggressively trying to get into the cabin I was staying in. I remember running frantically around the cabin, trying to make sure he could not/would not come in and keeping watch from a window.
Then one winter, I went and stayed at a family friend’s home in upstate New York. When I saw this bear made of branches on their porch, I knew it was my time to make friends with this creature that had visited me so many times in my dreams. So, I took him out into the snow and made some photographs.
I think that this, in many ways, sums up how I create work: mixing reality with a hint of imagination.
Note: this is a square image so there will be a large white border on one side of the print.
