Rather than developing a concept and following its premise by creating imagery, I often start photographing after being inspired by a strong emotion. Only then do I identify a concept, by looking closely at my pictures.
I am drawn to groups of people who are in a particular stage in their lives, where I had also been before. My ideas stem from a deep compassion towards my subjects as my process allows me to revisit periods in my past and explore them.
Fifteen years after my mandatory military duty ended, I returned to Israeli army bases, using the medium of photography as a vehicle to re-enter this world. My service had been a period of utter loneliness, mixed with apathy and pensiveness, and at the time I was too young to understand it all. In the series Serial No. 3817131, I reconstruct facets of my military life and try to reconcile matters that had been left unresolved.
