OK
by Trey Speegle

My work is really Pop Conceptualism. Using found words and images, I create new visuals with multi-layered meanings. The picture plane is often interrupted by lettering, which reveals the underlying architecture of the image and the tension between the two. The paint-by-number genre functions as an access point for the viewer to easily interact with the work.

OK is a large-scale collage of a silkscreen on paper of a complex woodland scene. The images are tiny reproductions of paint-by-numbers cut from vintage catalogues and embedded in wet paint. It is graphic, close-up as well as from a distance, and contains a mini-paint-by-number retrospective. OK?
